A text-driven science-fiction adventure about the Heechee, a mysterious alien artifact, and a dangerous interspecies threat.
The briefing
Gateway II: Homeworld is a science-fiction adventure and puzzle game developed and published by Legend Entertainment. It follows the events of Frederik Pohl's Gateway and centers on a huge object discovered near Pluto, known as The Artifact.
The Artifact may be connected to the vanished Heechee, an alien race that left behind ships with cryptic destinations. As a terrorist sect attempts to use the object to attract the Assassins—an alien community intent on destroying other species—a lone explorer investigates the mysterious vessel and finds evidence that something may be wrong at the heart of Heechee civilization.
The game uses a text-based interface similar to Eric the Unready. Commands can generally be typed or selected from lists of verbs and available objects, while conversations use preset topics on separate screens. Animated cutscenes are also included.
