Action-puzzle gameplay with gears, cogs, and overheating engines

About this game

Gear Works is an action-puzzle game released in 1992 for Commodore Amiga, Game Boy, MS-DOS, Nintendo Game Boy, and Sega Game Gear.

Gameplay

Each level presents red cogs positioned across a screen and a grid of pegs. Players use gears in three different sizes to link all the cogs together before the engine overheats. Later levels feature less-complete peg grids, increasing the challenge.

Two creatures called Poffins interfere with progress: one removes pegs, while the other increases the engine’s overheating. They can be shot out of the way or stopped by placing gears over them. A bonus round takes the form of a fruit machine featuring cogs and other game-related symbols.
