About this game

GFL Championship Football is a first-person American football game in which the viewpoint shifts between players during punts, kickoffs, passes, and kicks. Passing requires rotating the controls to choose a direction, while receiving involves aiming the visible hands at the centre of the screen.

The game features 28 fictional teams, including the Seagulls, Mustangs, and Geronimos. Teams are divided into four divisions and rated out of three across eight skill areas. Matches consist of four quarters with either four or seven minutes of in-play time.

Menus for selecting teams and plays use diagonal control movements. Standard gridiron rules apply, including gaining 10 yards within four downs and avoiding fumbles or interceptions; punts and field goals can be used when a first down is unlikely.

Released in 1986, the game was developed by Software Studios and published by Activision and GameStar for Amiga, Amstrad CPC, Atari ST/STE, Commodore C64/128/MAX, DOS, and Sinclair ZX Spectrum.
