A text adventure about uncovering gold in a deserted Californian town

About this game

Ghost Town is an adventure and puzzle game set in an old American town deserted after the Californian gold rush. Your objective is to locate Jake Clampett’s gold mine, collect its hidden gold, and bring it back to the town square.

The game combines a text parser with simple graphics that provide a map of the area. Exploration is central, with everything needed to complete the objective hidden around the town. Commands can be entered as two-word sentences such as open door, as single words including north or inventory, or through abbreviations such as N for north and U for up.

Ghost Town was developed by Adventure International and John Pickford, and published by Adventure International and Virgin Games. It was released on August 15, 1980, for systems including the Acorn Electron, Apple II, Atari 8-bit, BBC Microcomputer System, Commodore C64/128/MAX, Dragon 32/64, Exidy Sorcerer, Sinclair ZX Spectrum, Texas Instruments TI-99, TRS-80, TRS-80 Color Computer, and web browser.
