About this game

Giant Killers is a text-based football management game based on the 1999 UK season. Players can take charge of a club from the Premier League, Divisions One, Two, or Three, or the Conference league.

Management and Strategy

The game centers on club statistics and decision-making rather than on-screen match action. Managers can review club information, fixtures, results, and league tables; buy and sell players in the transfer market; and receive messages through the manager’s diary. Advancing through the season is handled via the diary, which moves time forward to the next match.

Before each match, players select the available squad, choose a formation, and set a long-ball, direct, or passing approach. Standard formations are available, along with the option to create a custom formation. During matches, presented as teleprompter-style highlights, tactics can be changed and substitutions made. Post-match statistics include individual performance information.

Difficulty

  • Easy: The club receives £25 million from a wealthy benefactor.
  • Medium: The club receives £25 million, while two other clubs in the league receive the same amount.
  • Hard: No additional cash is available.

The game is controlled entirely with a mouse, except when entering save-game names, which requires a keyboard.
