Sword-and-shield arcade action through a dangerous castle

The briefing

About this game

Gladiator puts you in control of Great Gurianos, a gladiator or knight making his way through a castle. The game combines defensive obstacle courses with close combat against similarly armored opponents.

Gameplay

In obstacle mode, Great Gurianos advances while bats, fireballs, arrows, shuriken, and other flying hazards approach. The joystick moves him left and right and raises or lowers his shield, while three buttons perform high, medium, and low sword attacks.

Fight mode breaks up the obstacle sections with battles against another knight. An undefended hit removes the corresponding piece of armor: the helmet for a high hit, the breastplate for a medium hit, or the leggings for a low hit. A second hit to the same exposed area is fatal. Rapidly moving the shield can create a temporary force field during obstacle sections, while Great Gurianos can briefly become invincible during combat.

Structure

Gladiator contains four levels. Completing the game unlocks a fifth stage known as the Treasure Place.
