About this game

GP Rider is an arcade-style motorcycle racing game based on the 15 tracks of the 1989 Motorcycle Grand Prix season. It also includes an additional Arcade track.

Modes

  • Arcade: Race on the dedicated Arcade track.
  • Tournament: Select between the Arcade track and any number of the 15 season tracks.
  • Grand Prix: Race all 15 season tracks in order.

Racing Features

Each event begins with qualifying to determine the starting grid, followed by a race against 15 riders. A CPU-controlled rider named Wayne occupies the opposing split-screen view when no second player is present and can have both strong and weak races, including occasional mistakes.

Races take place on flat tracks with straights and curves. Weather can be wet or dry, and conditions may change between qualifying and the race; Arcade mode uses dry conditions only. A fuel gauge counts down the available time and is automatically refilled after each completed lap. Failing to finish a lap before the fuel runs out ends the race as an “Out of Fuel” result.

Bike Setup

Arcade mode offers automatic or manual transmission, along with high gearing for greater top speed or low gearing for stronger acceleration. Tournament and Grand Prix modes additionally include lean, medium, and thirsty engine types, which increase speed while reducing the time available per lap, plus wet and dry tyre choices to match the weather.

In Tournament and Grand Prix modes, finishing positions award points before the next race.
