The briefing

About this game

Grand Monster Slam is a fantasy action sports game set in the world of GHoLD, where different races compete every five years to determine the supreme champion. To win the tournament, you must claim victory in nine matches.

In the main event, you and your opponent each begin with six Beloms—small, round creatures—on your side of the pitch. Kick them toward the opponent’s end quickly enough to leave all 12 there, then run across the field to secure the win. Shots can stun you and cost valuable recovery time, while kicking a Belom into the crowd results in a Pelvan penalty that may remove up to three Beloms.

Additional Events

Between matches, the tournament includes two sub-games. Faulton Feeding requires you to aim food at a Faulton creature positioned by six progressively higher poles. After every third match, failing to hit enough targets forces you to replay the previous match.

In Revenge of the Beloms, Beloms rush toward you and must be deflected with your pole. If too many get through and hit you, your score from the preceding match is reduced. Both sub-games can also be practiced from the main menu.

Developed by Golden Goblins and published by Rainbow Arts Software GmbH and Top Shots, Grand Monster Slam was released in 1988 for Amiga, Atari ST/STE, Commodore Amiga, Commodore C64/128/MAX, and DOS.
