Futuristic tag-inspired action across flag-filled levels

The briefing

About this game

Grid Runner is a futuristic take on tag. Playing on offense, capture the flags scattered throughout each level without being tagged or killed. On defense, tag the opposing player—controlled by the computer or another person in two-player mode—before all flags are collected.

Colored power-up balls improve different abilities: green increases speed, red increases magic, and blue increases agility. Magic points can be used to build a temporary bridge, leave explosives, slow an opponent, fire an upgradable or tradable weapon, boost speed, or teleport out of danger.

Developed by Radical Entertainment and published by Virgin Interactive, Grid Runner was released in 1996 for PC (Microsoft Windows), PlayStation, and Sega Saturn.
