A fantasy vertical shoot 'em up with steampunk style and character-based weapons
The briefing
Gunbird is a vertically scrolling shoot 'em up developed and published by Psikyo. Set in a fantasy world where medieval castles and lush forests coexist with steam trains and mech robots, the game follows five playable characters—Ash, Marion, Valnus, Yuan Nang, and Tetsu—as they search for the pieces of a magic mirror across seven stages.
Rather than piloting traditional spaceships, characters travel by broomstick, jet pack, or pedal-powered helicopter. The gameplay centers on dodging dense bullet patterns, collecting power-ups, and defeating enemies. P-items increase standard weapon firepower, while B-items provide additional ammunition for each character's screen-clearing special ability. Weapon styles vary between characters, including straight-line fire, wider spreads, and homing missiles.
