A two-character side-scrolling platformer about musicians chasing stardom across Japan

About this game

Hana no Star Kaidou is a side-scrolling action platformer released for the Family Computer on March 17, 1987. Players guide musicians Moeta and Goro as they travel across Japan, visiting locations such as Harajuku and Roppongi on their way toward a planned performance in New York.

Gameplay

The game contains six stages built around exploration rather than straightforward progression. Players first navigate streets to locate the correct music studio building, then search inside the building for the teleporter that marks the end of the stage.

A heart countdown timer threatens the characters' lives when it runs out. The timer is refilled when they enter a studio or begin a new stage. Both musicians must be controlled at the same time: they move in tandem, while the player can adjust the distance between them.

Moeta and Goro have separate life counts. The game ends when either character loses all of their lives, although completing a stage can restore a life.
