About this game

Hanii on the Road is a side-scrolling action platform game developed and published by FACE. Released on September 7, 1990, it follows Hanii, a small Haniwa clay doll, on a mission to defeat demons and other creatures that escaped from the Gods’ realm.

Rather than flying, Hanii runs across roads divided into four lanes, each moving at a different speed. Players must jump over enemies, avoid deep holes, adapt to changes in scrolling direction, and reach each stage’s exit before time runs out. Roadside signs indicate the distance to the next exit.

Features

  • Branching, interconnected paths and a non-linear structure
  • Boss encounters across many levels
  • Collectible items including extra lives, time clocks, rockets, trampolines, and point-giving Mystery Jars
  • Special transformations, including a race car and an almighty warrior
  • Two-player simultaneous play, with Lemon—the yellow version of Hanii—as the second character

Hanii on the Road was released for the NEC PC Engine and TurboGrafx-16/PC Engine.
