Hellboy: The Science of Evil is an action-adventure adaptation featuring an original game story in which Hellboy pursues the villainous Von Klempt across six settings. Along the way, he battles demons and Nazi creations using a brawler-style combat system supported by puzzles and story sequences.

Hellboy can wield environmental objects such as barrels and debris, use his Right Hand of Doom to break down structures, and grapple enemies for close-range finishes or use them as projectiles. The PSP version includes six two-player cooperative levels over ad-hoc Wi-Fi, with reworked campaign areas, puzzle-focused objectives, and individually tracked scores. It also has a distinct combat system, enemy AI, and level layouts rather than being a direct port of the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions.
