A pocket guitar and rhythm game for Nintendo DS

The briefing

About this game

JAM Sessions combines a rhythm game with a pocket guitar for Nintendo DS. Players select chords with the D-pad and strum using the stylus or L-button, with strumming speed, power, and direction affecting the sound.

The game includes a selection of famous songs, plus tutorial and warm-up modes. Performance is not punished, and songs continue regardless of accuracy. Its single strum string supports chord progressions rather than individual riffs or picking.

Guitar and Composition Tools

Players can compose and save up to five songs, using effects such as distortion, low cut, high cut, delay, chorus, and flanger. Effects offer extensive settings and can be applied generally or assigned to specific touches. With headphones or external speakers, the DS microphone can be used for singing, while the headphone jack can connect the system to an amplifier.

The top screen can display a metronome, guide bars, tab guides, backgrounds, and templates. A US re-release included a mini-amp, and pick-shaped stylus alternatives were also available.
