Action arcade bomb-catching game from Activision
The briefing
Kaboom! is an action arcade game developed and published by Activision. Released in 1981 for Atari 8-bit, Atari 800, Atari 2600, and Atari 5200, it is an unauthorized adaptation of the 1978 Atari coin-op Avalanche.
Players control a paddle to move buckets along the bottom of the screen, catching bombs dropped by the Mad Bomber before they reach the bottom. As the game progresses, the Mad Bomber moves more erratically and drops bombs at higher speeds across seven increasingly difficult higher levels.
Kaboom! was commercially successful, selling more than one million cartridges by 1983.
