Although it seemed like the game ended there, sly players soon discovered that the full game was accessible on the disc. By using a level-select cheat to skip to the second level and continuing through the game, players could experience the full adventure that awaited them.
Retro Gamer magazine even recognized Keio Flying Squadron as one of the top ten Mega CD games. They described it as a "perfectly acceptable substitute" for Konami's Parodius, featuring a similar style of horizontally scrolling wackiness.
