The briefing

About this game

In King’s Quest IV: The Perils of Rosella, King Graham collapses after attempting to pass his adventurer’s hat to his children. To save him, Rosella travels to the distant land of Tamir in search of a magical fruit.

Rosella’s journey is guided by the fairy Genesta, who promises to send her home only after she recovers Genesta’s stolen talisman from the evil witch Lolotte. As the first game in the series to feature a female protagonist, the adventure places Rosella among characters who may help or hinder her.

Gameplay

  • Explore a large, interconnected world without a time limit.
  • Move Rosella with the arrow keys and perform actions by typing commands.
  • Solve puzzles and interact with characters throughout Tamir.
  • Experience a day-and-night cycle, with some actions available only at specific times.
  • Uses the SCI engine, featuring more detailed graphics and pausing while commands are entered.

An AGI version was also released. The game launched in 1988 and was released for Amiga, Apple II, Apple IIGS, Atari ST/STE, Commodore Amiga, DOS, MS-DOS, and ScummVM.
