Fifteen years have passed since Resident Evil 5's release, and there's strong potential for a remake following the success of recent Capcom remakes like Resident Evil 4.

Capcom Should Consider Remaking Resident Evil 5

With the gaming community still raving about the remarkable remake of Resident Evil 4, which was met with universal praise and a perfect score in some gaming circles, one can't help but wonder what Capcom has in store for the future of the Resident Evil franchise. After a triumphant streak with the remakes of Resident Evil 2, 3, and 4, it seems like the natural progression would be to continue this successful trend.

Today, fifteen years have elapsed since the original debut of Resident Evil 5 on the Xbox 360 platform. Given the positive reception to the remakes of its predecessors, the title appears to be a prime candidate for Capcom's remake magic. It's undeniable that there are other contenders deserving a contemporary revival, such as the first Resident Evil game or Resident Evil Zero, but there are compelling reasons to prioritize RE5.

Taking a closer look at Resident Evil 4’s more action-centric approach, we find an unexpected affinity with Resident Evil 5's gameplay. Though RE5 is often remembered for its deviation towards action over survival horror, its mechanic foundations are closely modeled after RE4, albeit with the addition of co-operative gameplay and a fair share of over-the-top sequences.

The aspect of co-operative play in Resident Evil 5 introduces an intriguing aspect for a potential remake: how Capcom might adapt this feature. They could maintain the co-op structure as it is, remove it altogether, or innovate to enhance the gameplay. Given Capcom's recent track record, fans can reasonably expect a reimagined co-op experience that aligns with their contemporary vision.

While Resident Evil 5 has faced its share of criticism over the years, there's an undeniable potential within the game that a remake could unearth and polish. The elements of co-op, the thrilling settings, and the foundational mechanics are all ripe for a fresh take that could transform a good game into something remarkable.

Despite its polarizing nature, Resident Evil 6 might not share the same remake potential, suggesting that Capcom would be better off focusing on Resident Evil 5. The latter has all the ingredients that a remake could accentuate: a solid base game that could reach new heights with the modern expertise that Capcom now wields.

Let us not forget that remakes are not just about rehashing old content; they’re an opportunity to rework elements that didn't quite hit the mark the first time around. A remake is a chance to tweak and refine—to keep what worked and improve what didn't.

Whether or not a remake is on the horizon, it’s clear that Capcom has set a new standard in how classic games can be revitalized. With their mastery in the art of remakes, they have shown the potential to breathe new life into any title they choose to revamp. The question of which Resident Evil installment will be pulled back from the archives next remains, but among the clamor of possibilities, Resident Evil 5 stands out as a game that could be next in line to don a new guise for a new generation of gamers.
