Niantic's Pokémon Go is kicking off 2024 with a festive event featuring costumed Pokémon, avatar items, special events, and fireworks. Starts January 1st.

Pokémon Go's Festive 2024 New Year Celebration

As the current year comes to a close and anticipation for the new year builds, Pokémon Go fans have something exciting to look forward to. Niantic, the developer behind the popular augmented reality game, has announced a celebratory event to kickstart 2024 with a splash of in-game entertainment, rare Pokémon appearances, and a festive atmosphere.

When the clock strikes midnight and the calendar turns over to 2024, Pokémon Go enthusiasts will be able to enjoy an elaborate New Year’s event packed with various features. The festivities will commence on January 1st at 10:00 am and will continue until the evening of January 3rd, wrapping up at 8:00 pm, based on players' local time zones.

The highlight of the celebration is the introduction of Jigglypuff and Wigglytuff adorned with decorative ribbons, marking their first appearance in such attire within the game. Players should keep their eyes peeled for these specially dressed Pokémon, as shiny versions might also pop up, offering a coveted prize for lucky trainers.

In addition to Jigglypuff and Wigglytuff's festive looks, other Pokémon will be donning New Year outfits. For example, Hoothoot will be seen in celebratory attire, while Darumaka and Bronzor will be among the wild encounters players can look forward to during the event.

Further enhancing the New Year’s experience, players will witness virtual skies within the game light up with brilliant fireworks. The aesthetics of the game will be transformed with adorable seasonal decorations, infusing the usual Pokémon-hunting routine with a sense of celebration and novelty.

But the New Year's event isn't just about aesthetics. Practical bonuses will be available to players, too. Eggs placed in incubators during the event will require only half the usual distance to hatch, a significant boost for those wanting to hatch Pokémon without extensive walking. As an additional perk, the first three eggs placed using the egg-hatching widget will require only a quarter of the standard distance, making hatching even more efficient.

Of particular interest to dedicated players will be a series of redeemable codes available in December, offering in-game benefits. Additionally, a paid Timed Research feature will give players the opportunity to embark on exclusive quests. For just $1.00, or the regional equivalent, participants will be rewarded with Stardust, XP, PokéCoins, and encounters with event-specific Pokémon like the Wurmple wearing a festive party hat.

The event will also see the debut of new Field Research tasks, accessible to all players. These tasks will grant rewards such as Stardust or special encounters with Pokémon, providing an added incentive to engage with the event's activities.

For those who want to participate in the event in true spirited fashion, new avatar items will be available in the in-game shop. One of the most anticipated items is the Darumaka Hat, sure to be a hit among players looking to dress up their avatars for the celebration. Furthermore, a New Year’s box featuring an Incubator and a Premium Battle Pass will be available for only 99 PokéCoins—a small price to pay for these valuable items.

With 2024 about to begin, Pokémon Go players are on the edge of embarking on a thrilling start to the new year. By offering a unique mix of gameplay enhancements, visual treats, and valuable bonuses, the New Year's event seems poised to provide a memorable experience for the game's global community. Whether it's catching specially costumed Pokémon or enjoying the digital fireworks, trainers worldwide can look forward to welcoming the new year with Pokémon Go.
