The upcoming spin-off will bring back favorite doctors and companions, marking the first official addition to the newly named "Whoniverse" and celebrating the Doctor's 60th birthday.

"Tales of the TARDIS": A new Doctor Who spin-off announced

Fans of Doctor Who, buckle up! The BBC has recently announced a brand new spin-off show: "Tales of the TARDIS," which will premiere on November 1st on BBC iPlayer. The show, a fresh six-part series, promises an unforgettable return to the screen of classic doctors and their companions.

A particularly special feature of the show is its ensemble of beloved characters. Audiences will once again be privy to the timeless journeys of duos like Maureen O'Brien and Peter Purves, Frazer Hines and Wendy Padbury, Katy Manning and Daniel Anthony, Peter Davison and Janet Fielding, Colin Baker and Nicola Bryant, and last but not least, Sylvester McCoy and Sophie Aldred. As per the official synopsis, these legendary characters will step into their well-loved roles, setting off on an exciting rhetorical voyage across space and time.

Each episode will see the iconic duos recalling their adventures together while uncovering something new, each memory adding a fresh perspective to their collective journeys. The series promises a brand new insight into the stories of each timeless, unforgettable pair, delivering an unprecedented experience for both old and new fans.

"Tales of the TARDIS" marks the debut of the long-awaited "Whoniverse," which will be the official name and exclusive residence for all shows within the Doctor Who universe hereafter. The Whoniverse is to be housed exclusively on BBC iPlayer.

Russell T Davies, the showrunner, shed light on the creation of the Whoniverse: “The word 'Whoniverse' was invented by fans, so it’s only fitting to officially acknowledge it." He expressed his elation over developing "Tales of the TARDIS", describing it as one of the highlights of his career. He added, "To see old Doctors and companions reunited, still fighting the good fight, is a perfect way to celebrate the Doctor’s 60th birthday!”

The date of the show's premiere also holds an extra special surprise: the unveiling of the complete Doctor Who catalogue with more than 800 episodes on iPlayer. This collection includes everything from spin-offs like "Sarah Jane Adventures" to behind-the-scenes explorations in "Doctor Who Confidential."

The year 2023 and beyond is indeed promising for TV fans with a plethora of intriguing shows in the pipeline. For Doctor Who fans, however, "Tales of the TARDIS" is undoubtedly the icing on the cake, reuniting viewers with their favorite characters and embarking on an extraordinary voyage through the cosmos once more. Prepare for a timey-wimey spin down memory lane as the tales unfold!
