World War II naval combat simulation
ADS: Advanced Destroyer Simulator places you at the helm of the H.M.S. Onslaught, a British O-class destroyer operating in World War II. It uses real-time filled 3D graphics and presents missions from a first-person viewpoint, supported by a scenario map.
Control the destroyer manually during close-range naval engagements. The Onslaught is equipped with three cannon turrets, port and starboard torpedo tubes, and sonar for detecting and tracking submarines. Submarines can be attacked after surfacing, while enemy freighters, tankers, torpedo boats, destroyers, cruisers, and Stuka fighters present additional threats.
There is no campaign. Missions cover patrols, convoy escorts, submarine hunts, blockade runs, and seek-and-destroy assignments. Each scenario also includes a free-roaming “Delta” option without a specific objective. Time limits can require visits to allied ports for repairs, refuelling, and ammunition resupply.
The CPC version includes two scenarios. ADS was released for Amiga, Amstrad CPC, Atari ST, Atari ST/STE, and DOS. Didier Arnaud developed the game, and Futura published it.
