Akalabeth: World of Doom

Akalabeth: World of Doom is an adventure role-playing game set in a land still plagued by the monsters brought by Mondain. Playing as either a fighter or a mage, you explore the world, descend into dungeons, and complete quests for Lord British.

The overhead map includes dungeons, towns where supplies, weapons, and armor can be purchased, and a castle where quests are assigned. Dungeon exploration shifts to a first-person perspective, with combat, treasure, and progressively stronger creatures found on deeper levels.

Akalabeth is identified as the precursor to the Ultima series. It was released for Apple II and MS-DOS.
