A non-linear fantasy role-playing adventure across Lyramion

The briefing

About this game

Amberstar is a fantasy role-playing game set in the land of Lyramion. A lone adventurer from Twinlake must gather thirteen pieces of the Amberstar artifact to stop the sorcerer Marmion from releasing Lord Tarbos, a corrupted former hero imprisoned on the world's red moon.

Exploration and Party Building

The game combines a top-down view for overworld travel and most interiors with a first-person pseudo-3D perspective in cities and dungeons. The initially classless protagonist can recruit additional characters from across Lyramion, forming an active party of up to six members. Characters may develop through guilds associated with fighter, paladin, ranger, mage, monk, and thief classes.

Combat and Progression

Encounters take place at set locations in the overworld or when approaching visible dungeon enemies. Battles use turn-based combat on a small grid, with tactical movement, offensive and defensive choices, and 90 different spells. Leveling characters can train their attributes at specific locations, while class selection influences growth and equipment restrictions.

A Living World

Amberstar offers largely non-linear exploration from the beginning, alongside quests, side quests, multi-topic conversations, town auto-mapping, and a day-and-night cycle that can affect NPC movements and shop schedules. Horses, boats, rafts, and later transportation options aid travel, while rations restore lost life points during camping.

Progress can be saved at any time, although the game uses a single save slot that is automatically overwritten.
