About this game

Artificial Dreams is a slow-paced, methodical top-down shoot 'em up released in 1987 for Amiga and Atari ST systems. You guide a ship upward through square-designed levels filled with barriers and aliens that generally approach along the same vertical plane.

The levels feature numerous effect squares offering improvements such as stronger weaponry, extra lives, level warps, and the ability to halt the otherwise constant scrolling. This pause can help you pick off aliens more carefully, but another square accelerates them and is best avoided. The ship can move backward a short distance, while crossing the screen takes several squares of movement—an important consideration in the maze-like sections.
