About this game

Aviator is a 1982 flight simulator programmed by Geoff Crammond for the BBC Microcomputer System and published by Acornsoft. It was noted for its realistic flight model, including g-forces severe enough to tear the wings off during a dive.

The game presents a largely monochrome landscape with vector-drawn features such as hills, fields, a lake, a suspension bridge, and a small town. Players can earn bonus points by flying beneath the bridge or along the town’s main street, with double points awarded for performing these stunts upside down.

Aviator also includes a shoot-'em-up mode in which alien vessels feed on crops, grow, and eventually fly toward the town. Aliens can be destroyed on the ground for full points or attacked in the air for reduced points. If one reaches the town, the game ends.
