About this game

Benkei Gaiden is a traditional Japanese-style role-playing game developed and published by Sunsoft. Released on December 22, 1989, it follows Oniwaka, a young martial artist instructed to travel south to a monster tower and rescue a kidnapped fellow disciple.

Players explore a top-down world inspired by feudal Japan, visit towns, purchase weapons and armor, and battle randomly appearing monsters in first-person, turn-based combat. Interaction uses menu-based commands such as Talk and Search. The game was released for NEC PC Engine, TurboGrafx-16/PC Engine, and Wii.
