About this game

Biggles is a multi-part action adventure based on W. E. Johns’ World War I pilot and the 1980s feature film. Jim, Biggles’ brother from the modern era, travels back in time to warn Biggles about a German super-weapon that could change history.

Gameplay

The first game is divided into three linked sections:

  • A side-view flight game where players pilot a rickety aircraft, firing a machine gun and dropping bombs while dodging Fokkers.
  • A modern-day London rooftop sequence involving jumps, gaps, guards, and the search for a secret code.
  • A side-view combat game inspired by Green Beret, featuring multiple vertical levels, a gun, encroaching enemies, and grenades.

Losing a life in any section sends the player back through the sequence.

The second game is a more serious flight simulation. A helicopter is sent back in time, and the player must visit the Allied camp to learn the secret weapon’s location before travelling there to destroy it. The password obtained in the first game is required to reach the Allied camp.

Release Information

Biggles was released in 1985 for Amstrad CPC, Commodore 64, Commodore C64/128/MAX, and Sinclair ZX Spectrum.
