A seven-chapter side-scrolling martial-arts beat 'em up

The briefing

About this game

In Black Belt, you play as Riki, a martial artist attempting to rescue Kyoko after her kidnapping. Armed opponents use whips, knives, swords, and flamethrowers, while Riki relies on his hand-to-hand combat skills.

The side-scrolling action is divided into seven chapters. Each chapter features changing enemy types, mid-stage encounters, and several bosses with individual strengths and weaknesses. Contact with enemies drains energy; losing all energy costs a life. Recovery opportunities include catching a cake that crosses the screen and defeating a bonus enemy.

Black Belt is a modified version of the Japanese-exclusive Hokuto no Ken, with the license removed and new level designs.
