Third-person action-adventure with combat, stealth abilities, and blood-driven survival
The briefing
Blood Omen 2: The Legacy of Kain is a third-person action game with adventure, horror, hack-and-slash, and puzzle elements. Played from behind Kain’s shoulder, it lets him move freely, attack, jump, grab ledges, use dark gifts, and fight with both bare hands and found weapons.
Kain’s life energy steadily drains and must be restored by drinking the blood of nearby living creatures. Defeated enemies can provide blood, filling Kain’s meter and granting additional health when full. Throughout the game, Kain learns new dark gifts by defeating boss creatures, including mist blending, projectile attacks, telekinesis, and a powerful horizontal leap. These abilities can also enable instant stealth kills.
Weapons such as daggers, swords, and axes have distinct attack styles, can be thrown, and eventually break. Developed by Crystal Dynamics and published by Eidos, the game was released on December 9, 2002, for Nintendo GameCube, PC, PlayStation 2, and Xbox.
