A target-shooting gallery game where careful aim and bullet management are essential.
The briefing
Carnival is a shooting gallery game centered on accuracy and ammunition management. Three rows of targets—including rabbits, ducks, owls, and bonus items—scroll across the screen in alternating directions.
Players must shoot the targets and an overhead spinning wheel with eight pipes to complete each round. Ducks that cross the bottom row come to life and fly toward the player, eating bullets if they reach the bottom of the screen. Extra bullets and points can be earned by shooting special objects, while unused bullets award bonus points at the end of a round.
After each regular round, a large white bear carrying a target walks across the screen. Shooting the bear makes it briefly rear up before it moves faster in the opposite direction. The goal is to hit it as many times as possible before it leaves the screen. Later bonus rounds add more bears.
Higher levels feature more duck targets and fewer extra-bullet targets, increasing the importance of precise shooting. The game ends when the player runs out of bullets. Carnival was released for Arcade, Atari 2600, ColecoVision, Final Burn Alpha Neo, and Intellivision.
