The briefing

About this game

Castle Blast is an Atari 5200 shoot'em up inspired by the fifth screen of Phoenix for the Atari 2600. Developed and self-published by Ronen Habot, it was his first Atari 5200 programming project.

The objective is to destroy the castle aboard the mothership. Move left and right with the joystick and fire Vertical Trajectory Missiles (VTMs) at the mothership's lower shield. Once the shield is penetrated, attack the castle. Enemy spaceships flying overhead can also be destroyed for extra points.

Progressive Challenge

Destroying the castle advances the game to new levels. Focused Energy Beams are introduced first, followed by stars that make overhead targets more difficult to hit. Later levels add ground-based tanks, which can be attacked with Horizontal Trajectory Missiles (HTMs).

Castle Blast debuted at the 2002 Classic Gaming Expo and was sold with a box, manual, and cartridge.
