A Gottlieb pinball and video game hybrid featuring maze-based video gameplay.
The briefing
Caveman is a pinball game released by Gottlieb in 1982 and designed by John Buras. It combines a conventional pinball table with an embedded video screen and a small joystick.
Hitting either side of the screen starts a simple maze game. Players control a caveman, catch extra balls, and hunt dinosaurs. Exiting the maze returns the player to the pinball game, while being eaten by a T. rex drains the ball.
Caveman is notable as an early pinball and video game hybrid and is associated with the first use of video mode.
