The briefing

About this game

In Centurion: Defender of Rome, you begin in 275 BC as a young Roman legionnaire with control of Rome and a single legion. Your goal is to conquer every province on the map through military force or diplomacy.

Build and Manage Rome

Managing your provinces is an important part of the campaign. You can set tax rates, raise or reinforce legions, and organize public games to keep the population happy. Events in Rome include chariot races, gladiatorial combats, and simulated naval battles, each presented as an action mini-game.

Conquest by Land and Sea

Move legions between neighboring provinces and negotiate with local rulers when entering territories you do not control. Diplomacy may secure a province without a battle, but warfare is often necessary. Land engagements shift to an isometric battlefield where you command your forces within the range of their commander’s voice. Battles end when one side is destroyed or panics and retreats.

You can also buy warships and face enemy fleets in naval action mini-games depicting flagship duels. Although the battle is presented through action gameplay, the outcome depends on the strength of your fleet.
