A first-person Egyptian adventure with turn-based RPG battles
The briefing
Cleopatra no Mahou is a first-person adventure RPG set in an Egyptian town and its surrounding ruins. Players guide Daisuke Kusano, the son of a missing archaeologist, on a quest to recover the Tears of Isis and rescue his father.
The game combines exploration with an adventure-style interface and turn-based battles. Players can fight, use items, or flee, earning experience from successful encounters and increasing Daisuke’s stamina when he levels up. Items can be purchased from shops, although some shopkeepers must first be defeated in battle. Enemy encounters can occur randomly, even while examining the inventory.
Daisuke’s journey leads through locations including the Great Sphinx of Giza, the Temple of Kom Ombo, a tower of sand, and an underground labyrinth. The adventure was released for the Family Computer Disk System and Nintendo Famicom Disk System on July 24, 1987. It was developed by Square and published by Disk Original Group.
