Commando

Commando is a shooter in which Super Joe is dropped into a jungle and must fight his way through a massive enemy assault alone. His sub-machine gun has unlimited ammunition and can fire in any of eight directions, while grenades are limited and travel vertically toward the top of the screen.

Grenades can clear obstacles and destroy groups of enemies, making careful placement especially valuable. At the end of each level, Super Joe faces waves of soldiers emerging from a gate or fortress. Their officer flees immediately, but shooting him as he escapes awards bonus points. Prisoners of war can also be rescued along the way.

The NES version adds a stronger machine gun, glasses that reveal hidden bunkers, and an unlimited-grenade upgrade. These upgrades are lost when a life is lost.
