A training-focused decathlon sports game featuring gym exercises and Olympic events
The briefing
Daley Thompson's Olympic Challenge expands on traditional athletics games by requiring players to train before taking part in the main events. Weight-lifting, squats and sit-ups use rapid joystick movement to fill a displayed Lucozade bottle, with better training improving performance in competition.
The events cover the standard decathlon disciplines of running, jumping and throwing. Players can choose between four types of shoes, although selecting an unsuitable pair for an event can significantly hinder performance.
Released in 1987, the game was developed by David Collier, James Higgins and Ocean Software Ltd., and published by Ocean Software Ltd. It was released for Amiga, Amstrad CPC, Atari ST/STE, Commodore 64, Commodore Amiga, Commodore C64/128/MAX and Sinclair ZX Spectrum.
