A quest-driven RPG and turn-based strategy game from Data East
The briefing
Dark Lord is the first game in a trilogy and combines role-playing adventure with turn-based tactical strategy. Released for the Family Computer and Nintendo Famicom, it was developed and published by Data East.
Players form a party of three characters and begin in a menu-driven town. From there, they can accept any of the game’s twelve quests in a flexible order, although determining the right progression is important for surviving the battles ahead.
Each quest leads to a distinct location and mini-scenario. Completing one returns the party to town with experience, money, and potentially new items. Exploration uses a top-down perspective, while encounters shift to turn-based tactical combat.
