About this game

Deep Dungeon IV: Kuro no Youjutsushi, also known as Deep Dungeon IV: The Black Sorcerer, is the fourth and final entry in the Deep Dungeon series. Developed by Humming Bird Soft and published by Asmik, it was released for the Family Computer in 1990.

Gameplay

The game removes the previous title's custom character feature. Instead, the player can meet up to two additional playable characters, each with a predetermined class. Character stat growth returns to a randomized system when gaining experience levels.

Players can eventually learn to summon two monsters, which can serve as temporary additional party members for a single battle. The game also removes the feature that prevents random battles when the party is significantly stronger than its enemies.

Dungeons are smaller than those in earlier entries: they are either single-floor locations or multi-floor areas that fit within one 32x32 map. Optional requests from non-player characters can reward completed objectives with bonus items, experience, or money.
