About this game

Digital Devil Story: Megami Tensei is a first-person role-playing game developed by Atlus and published by Namco. Released on September 11, 1987, it is set in maze-like dungeons and uses turn-based combat.

Players guide high-school student and programmer Akemi Nakajima and transfer student Yumiko Shirasagi as they confront a demonic invasion caused by Nakajima’s Devil Summoning Program. Nakajima and Yumiko can be manually customized when they level up.

Key Features

  • Communicate with randomly encountered demons using money or magnetite.
  • Summon demons to fight as members of the party.
  • Fuse demons in special facilities to create more powerful species.
  • Demons’ communication responses are influenced by their race, alignment, and the phase of the moon.

The game is based on Aya Nishitani’s Digital Devil Story horror novels and marks the beginning of the Megami Tensei role-playing franchise.
