A challenging 1987 Konami adventure RPG for the Family Computer
The briefing
Dragon Scroll: Yomigaerishi Maryuu is a 1987 adventure role-playing game developed and published by Konami for the Family Computer, also known as the Nintendo Famicom.
Players explore different territories and dungeons to recover eight stolen magical artifacts that maintain a sleep spell over a dangerous dragon. Enemies appear throughout the overworld and dungeons, and defeating them awards experience points used to raise the player’s level, improve strength, and gain access to stronger weapons and magic.
The game is non-linear and notably challenging, with few clues about where to go or how to use many of its hidden items. A password system allows progress to be continued later.
