Evening Star

Evening Star is a steam engine simulator set on the early-1960s Somerset and Dorset line between Bath and Bournemouth. You take control of BR Standard Class 9F locomotive 92220, named Evening Star, while hauling the Pines Express.

The game includes a demonstration mode and seven scenarios with increasing difficulty. At the highest level, you must manage the train from the cab, monitor its gauges, respond to emerging problems, and follow a random timetable. Starting from a standstill in the station, you must build speed carefully while observing track speed limits and signals.

Correct whistle use and management of water, steam, and coal are essential to keeping the service on schedule. The first-person cab view provides visibility along the track and to the sides, alongside displays for speed, water, coal, signals, gradient, and time.
