A hockey game featuring exhibition play, seasons, playoffs, Shot Cam, and on-ice fights.
The briefing
Face Off! is a hockey game developed by MindSpan Technologies, with exhibition, full-season, and playoff modes leading to the GHL Cup. Standard play uses a traditional side view, while shots on goal switch to a dedicated Shot Cam view.
Fouls can trigger one-on-one fights. The winner remains on the ice, while the loser serves time in the penalty box. Players can choose realistic, relaxed, or no-rules settings, along with team size, difficulty, period length, and whether to control the goalie during Shot Cam sequences.
The game includes minor coaching and management features, including custom play design, line changes, movement between minor- and major-league teams, and trades with other league teams. Without an NHL license, its teams and players are fictional, but names can be changed.
Two-player cooperative and competitive modes are available for non-networked multiplayer. Face Off! was released in 1987 for Atari ST, Commodore Amiga, DOS, MS-DOS, and PC (Microsoft Windows), and is associated with Action and sports genres.
