A survival-horror adventure through a vanished village
The briefing
Fatal Frame II: Crimson Butterfly is an adventure-horror game released on November 18, 2003. Twin sisters Mio and Mayu become trapped in the Lost Village, a place that disappeared from the living world, and must confront the ghosts of its former townspeople while searching for a way out.
Mio uses the Camera Obscura to photograph attacking spirits. The game retains the series’ core gameplay while changing how camera abilities and film work: film types have loading times, special abilities charge through successful shots, and camera upgrades require both spirit points and specific items.
The Xbox release adds an extra difficulty level, an additional ending, cosmetic accessories, six unlockable costume pairs for Mio and Mayu, a survival mode featuring an additional ghost type, and an optional first-person control and view style.
