A mission-based crime action game set in London
The briefing
In Gangs of London, the player joins one of five crime gangs and attempts to take control of London. Rather than using a fully free-roaming campaign, the main story is presented through a menu of 70 short missions, each introduced by a comic-style story sequence.
Missions feature varied objectives, including escorting, infiltrating enemy positions, stealing cars, kidnapping, racing, defending locations against enemy attacks, and eliminating targets. On foot, the game plays as a third-person shooter, with occasional opportunities to command accompanying gang members. Driving is action-oriented and can be viewed from either first- or third-person perspectives, while stealth sections focus on observing patrols and attacking guards from behind.
Police respond when they witness crimes, although the game does not use a wanted system. Each gang has different abilities, such as the Triads' faster driving.
A separate strategy mode presents London as roughly 30 districts. Players control a crime organization, move men between districts, recruit additional members, and acquire bonus cards. The mode includes three difficulty levels and several possible winning conditions.
