An on-rails lightgun shooter set in Mega-City One
The briefing
Judge Dredd places players in the role of Mega-City One’s toughest lawman as he confronts a hostage-taking perpetrator who has already caused the deaths of 17 Judges. Armed with the Lawgiver, Judge Dredd must clear a fixed-path journey through four stages and 14 levels.
The game uses pre-rendered environments with polygonal 3D enemies layered over the scenery. Background objects can also be targeted, including gun turrets, hovertanks, and other heavy machinery. Hidden power-ups include rapid-fire and heat-seeking ammunition, medikits, extra lives, and rockets capable of clearing the screen.
Accuracy is important: innocent citizens may cross the action, and shooting too many of them results in a game over. The storyline is presented through live-action cutscenes between levels, and the game is based on the original comics rather than the 1995 film.
