The briefing

About this game

Elite is a free-form space trading and combat simulation set across eight galaxies and 256 planets. The player begins as Commander Jameson at Lave Station, with 100 credits and a lightly armed Cobra Mark III.

Travel between star systems, trade with inhabitants, and build wealth and reputation through activities including military missions, bounty hunting, asteroid mining, and piracy. Earnings can be used to improve the ship with upgrades such as stronger weapons, better shields, expanded cargo capacity, and automated docking.

Presented from a first-person perspective with pseudo-3D wire-frame graphics, Elite combines exploration and action-oriented space combat. Thargoid ships may attack the player, while attacking neutral vessels lowers reputation and can draw the attention of the galactic police. Travel is limited by the ship’s fuel capacity, which supports journeys of up to seven light years.
