About this game

Fighter Pilot is a single-player flight simulation released in 1982. It places the player in control of a McDonnell Douglas F-15 Eagle, with flight, landing, and air-to-air combat scenarios designed around instrument reading and aircraft handling.

Flight and Combat Modes

  • Landing Practice begins six miles from touchdown with the landing gear down.
  • Flying Training starts the player at the end of a runway for takeoff practice.
  • Air-to-Air Combat Practice provides a non-retaliating target for weapons training.
  • Air-to-Air Combat requires the player to defend four airfields and locate hostile aircraft using radar.
  • Blind Landing removes the external view and requires an instrument-only approach.
  • Crosswinds, turbulence, and selectable skill levels add further challenges.

Cockpit Instruments

The cockpit includes an artificial horizon, airspeed and altitude indicators, a vertical speed indicator, flaps and undercarriage indicators, an engine thrust gauge with reheat, fuel readouts, radar, a compass, and an ILS or flight computer display. The flight computer can show the aircraft's position relative to beacons, while the combat display can indicate an enemy's altitude.

Four airfields—BASE, TANGO, DELTA, and ZULU—feature perspective runways with center lines, distance markers, and end lights. Keyboard controls and Kempston, Sinclair, and AGF/Protek joysticks are supported.
