Third-person squad-based shooter set in an occupied New York City
The briefing
Freedom Fighters is a third-person shooter set in an alternate New York City occupied by the Soviet Union. Chris Stone, an ordinary plumber, is drawn into the conflict after his brother Troy is arrested and accused of terrorism.
Players work to contact the real freedom fighters, rescue Troy, and push the invaders out of the city. Squad-based tactics allow Chris to recruit and command an expanding group of allies, eventually leading up to a dozen freedom fighters into battle.
The game features weapons including pistols, revolvers, assault rifles, submachine guns, shotguns, rocket launchers, and grenades. It was developed by IO Interactive and published by Electronic Arts, with a release date of October 1, 2003, for Microsoft Windows, Xbox, Nintendo GameCube, and PlayStation 2.
