About this game

Galactic Attack is a single-player Apple II game released in 1980 by Siro-Tech Software, later known as Sir-Tech. Adapted from the PLATO mainframe game Empire, it places the player in command of a starship during a campaign to reclaim the solar system from the Kazanta invaders.

Gameplay

Players must destroy enemy ships, bombard hostile forces on planets, and beam down armies to secure those worlds. The two-dimensional tactical view places the player’s starship at the center of the screen and uses a loose Star Trek-style framework.

  • Phasers fire in a cone, with damage based on distance.
  • Torpedoes travel in straight lines and are limited in number and flight time.
  • Deflector shields and multiple warp speeds support combat and movement.
  • Energy is limited but gradually regenerates automatically.
  • Weapons are aimed by entering compass bearings in degrees.
