A World War II strategy-action game set in North Africa

The briefing

About this game

Desert Fox blends strategy, action, shooting, simulation, and tactical gameplay in a World War II setting. Players take the role of tank commander Lone Wolf, working to foil Rommel's plans in Northern Africa.

Campaign Overview

The strategic game takes place on an overhead map showing the positions of Lone Wolf and Rommel. The main objective is to save Allied depots before Rommel's troops overrun them. Lone Wolf can move across the map, use one airstrike per game to buy time for a depot, and gather enemy intelligence by radio to learn where obstacles may be waiting.

Action Sequences

Encounters with obstacles or Rommel trigger one of five action sequences:

  • Tank duels
  • A turret section against incoming fighters
  • Minefield navigation
  • Convoy protection
  • Escaping an ambush

These action sequences can also be played separately from the campaign. Lighting conditions change according to the time of day.
